This week’s Gospel comes from Mark 1:14-20 where Jesus said “Repent, fishermen . . .Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they abandoned their nets and followed him.

We usually think repentance means turning from sinfulness toward God. And, indeed, this is the point of the first reading. The gospel, however, suggests another meaning: repentance means to change.

Repentance – the willingness to change our thoughts and ways to those of God – is the foundation for daily Christian discipleship.
