Simbang Gabi Mass CelebrationThe Filipino Community of St. Joseph (TFCSJ) invites you to our Traditional Simbang Gabi Mass Celebration December 15th through 23rd. Simbang Gabi is a cherished Filipino Christmas tradition. It is a devotional celebration of a series of nine masses that traditionally begins on December 16 and ends on Christmas Eve, December 24. The term “Simbang Gabi” literally translates to “night Mass” in English, but it is usually celebrated early in the morning at 4:00 or 5:00 am. It is also known as “Misa de Gallo” (Rooster’s Mass). This beautiful tradition originated in the 17th century when Spanish friars introduced the novena masses as a way of preparing Filipino Catholics for “Pasko” (Christmas). Simbang Gabi serves as a spiritual celebration for Christmas, focusing on prayer, reflection and devotion to complete the 9-day novena masses. Simbang Gabi is an integral part of Philippine Christmas celebrations, showcasing the country’s vibrant faith and rich cultural heritage. It is also a time of bonding between families, friends and the community in joyful and festive celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ our Savior. Please join us.
