Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) seeks to provide our local youth with the opportunity to develop their bodies, minds and spirits through participation in sports. We seek to teach our youth to learn and practice Christian attitudes, to respect the game, themselves, their opponents, their coaches, and the officials. Through sports competition, we seek to teach them to be responsible, and offer them the chance to meet and become friends with other participants throughout the diocese. CYO activities should foster athletes who are examples of the meaning of Christian sportsmanship.
CYO serves students of St. Joseph School, those who participate in St. Joseph Faith Formation, and those of our surrounding community.
How to be involved
CYO is really a Youth Ministry
through the vehicle of sports participation. Throughout the year, we offer basketball, volleyball and track to both girls and boys, and softball to girls.
In Fall, we offer Softball to girls in grades 5-8; Volleyball to girls in grades 3-8; and Basketball to boys in grades 2-8. In Spring, we offer Volleyball to boys in grades 5-8; Basketball to girls in grades 2-8; and Track and Field to all ages. Track meets are held at James Logan High School on weekends during the Spring.
Girls participate in the Southern Alameda County (SAC) League which includes the parishes of Corpus Christi, Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Guadaloupe, Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Anne, St. Bede, St. Clement, St. Edward, St. James, and St. Joseph.
Boys participate in the Mission Valley League (MVL) which covers Union City, Newark and Fremont parishes of Corpus Christi (Niles), Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Guadaloupe, Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Anne's, St. Edwards, St. James, and St. Joseph.
