Children’s Faith Formation

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them;
for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.” Luke 18:16-17

Faith Formation requires both learning about and practicing the faith in order for the children to be nurtured and grow in faith and in their relationship with God and the church community. At the weekly faith formation classes, the children learn about God and the Church through prayers, sacraments, Bible stories, liturgical seasons, and other teachings of God and the Church. These classes, which are very informative, however, there is minimal time for adequate modeling and living out the faith. Therefore, it is crucial that the parents and family reinforce the faith at home, for example, by praying with your children, reviewing the weekly lesson with them, and especially bringing them to Mass every Sunday. Fr. John Hardon, S.J. once said, “Under God, parents are the first in time, first in authority, first in responsibility, first in supernatural ability, and first in dignity to educate their children for eternal life.” The Church again and again affirms this saying by emphasizing the important role of parents in educating, modeling and forming their children in the Catholic faith.

We aware that raising children in today’s world is a challenging task; forming them in the Catholic faith is even more difficult. However, in Pope Francis encouraging words, “You can do it.” Please let us know if you need help. We are available to assist you in whatever way we can.
